Mechanical Beetle

Motor rotation is transferred to the legs via crank plates and linkage rods, causing the Tamiya Mechanical Beetle to walk forwards or backwards at one of two selectable speeds. A linkage rod connected to the beetle’s front right leg swings its horn left and right as the beetle walks. When it bumps into an obstacle, the beetle automatically turns to avoid it and continues walking. Because of this behavior, the beetle can provide amusement by simply running around in a small, enclosed space. The body is made from a transparent green ABS resin that allows you to see all of the motors, gears, cranks, and linkage rods in action.

Basic specifications
  • Total length: 195 mm
  • Total weight: 110 g (without batteries)
  • Body material: ABS resin
  • 2 possible different speeds.
  • Gearbox, motor, and control switch are included.
  • Requires one AA (a.k.a. R6 or UM3) battery (not included).
  • Continuous running time with Alkaline battery: 3hrs. at low speed / 2hrs. at high speed

Note: This is a kit. Assembly requires using a screwdriver and snapping parts together. No soldering is required. Run on flat, smooth surfaces; avoid running over slopes, on bumpy roads, or on thick carpet.

Mechanical Turtle - Four Leg Crawling Type

Tamiya presents the 4-leg crawling-type Mechanical Turtle as its next Robocraft Series item. Motor rotating power is transferred to the legs via crank plates to make the Turtle crawl. Each pair of legs (front and rear) are molded as one piece and front leg plate is attached with a ball joint that serves as a fulcrum to realistically imitate turtle crawling. Legs and body on which the gearbox is mounted employ transparent-colored parts, giving the turtle a funky look. Reverse switch is also transparent, giving you a peek at the turtle's internal mechanisms. Assembly is very simple with use of screws and snap-lock parts.

All you need included
Body, legs, motor, gearbox, switch and screws are included in the kit. Assembly is very simple with use of screws and snap-lock parts. Cable ends are rubber capped with cut areas pre-marked for easy wiring.

Turtle crawling movement strikingly rendered
The secret of movement resides in the front leg plate. This plate is attached with a ball joint that serves as a fulcrum to transform crank plate forward/backward movement to make the turtle crawl.

Clear type switch
Clear switch with green transparent parts add a cool, futuristic look. Thanks to this switch, the turtle can crawl forward and backward.

Crawling the Turtle
Run on flat, smooth surfaces. Avoid running over slopes, on bumpy roads or on long-haired carpet.

Mechanical Kangaroo - Two Leg Jumping Type

Mechanical Kangaroo - Two Leg Jumping Type

Tamiya presents the robot replica of the beloved kangaroo from Australia. This amazing kangaroo-robot jumps by moving its rear legs simultaneously to go forward. When walking slowly, it also uses its front legs (just like they do down under) and when running quickly, it uses its tail for balance. Legs and body on which the gearbox is mounted employ transparent-colored parts, giving the kangaroo a funky look. Reverse switch is also transparent, giving you a peek at the kangaroo's internal mechanisms.

All you need included
Assembly is very simple with use of screws and snap-lock parts. Cable ends are rubber capped with cut areas pre-marked for easy wiring.

When using high-speed gearbox, the kangaroo walks standing on its tail and rear legs.
A gearbox transforms the motor movement to make the kangaroo's rear legs move. You can choose between two different gears for gearbox assembly. When using the low speed gearbox, rods are attached to the lower holes of front legs and kangaroo walks standing on its tail.

Low-speed gearbox makes the kangaroo walk using its front and rear legs
When using the low speed gearbox, rods are attached to the upper holes of front legs. Changing rod position using different holes in the crank plate gives you 4 different speed possibilities within slow speed mode. When walking slowly, it impressively imitates a real kangaroo's movement.

Altering tail position makes kangaroo change direction
Changing the position of the tail allows the kangaroo to keep balance during high-speed running and enables it to change direction. Putting the tail straight will make the kangaroo go straight but setting it to the right/left will make the kangaroo turn to the right/left.

Playing with the Kangaroo
Avoid running over slopes, bumpy roads or longhaired carpet. Run on flat, smooth surfaces. Watching its humorous movement will provide you with loads of fun.
